Ask most adults and they will tell you they aren’t happy in their job. Ask the same people if they are happy with their career trajectory and their answer might be different. We pursue a career with the intentions of not only being good at it but enjoying it now and in the future. So how come so many people are unhappy at work? Could it be that they are in the wrong careers? Would it make sense to take a ‘what is my future job quiz?’  It might shed light on the right jobs and careers that could make more people happier at work.

Is there a difference between a job and a career?

Dictionary.com defines a career as “an occupation or profession, especially one requiring special training, followed as one’s lifework.” A job, on the other hand, is defined as “a post of employment” or in other words, something you do primarily for money.
“Am I happy with my career?” This is a different question from “Am I happy with my job?” Are you engaged in your life’s work, or are you working at a job primarily for money? A future job quiz can help you to determine what future career would best suit you.

Why are you where you are?

Few people are lucky enough to know exactly what they want to do with their lives at a young age. But what about the rest of us?  Did you get drafted into the family business? Did you wind up studying something in college that led you to a career path you wouldn’t have chosen, but something you knew you could do effectively? Did you study something you’re passionate about in college only to accept employment in another occupation because jobs were scarce in your field? Did you achieve the degrees or education required for the career you truly love? Did you take a job intended to be a stepping stone, but you are still in it years or decades later? Did you imagine, years ago, that your future job would look like what it is right now? Perhaps you need to take a future job quiz to realign yourself with your right career.

A future job quiz can tell if you are in the wrong career?

How can you tell if you are in the right career when there are so many reasons why we could be unhappy in our occupation? However, as Zoë B discusses in her Huffington Post article ‘7 Steps to Know if You are In the Right Job’, you could be in the right career field, but the wrong job. She suggests keeping a daily work diary for two weeks and tracking what you are doing and how you feel about it. You may be surprised to find that there is a lot you do like about your current job. If you find that the majority of your day is filled with work that you dislike or tasks that you find difficult or stressful, it may be time to consider exploring different options for your future career. A ‘what is my future job quiz’ may be just what you need.

Why do we stay so long in jobs we don’t like?

There are many reasons why we feel stuck in jobs we hate. It is never too late to leave. if you need help to leave an unsatisfying job, the starting point would be to try and predict a good job for you that you can do even in the future and feel fulfilled. A ‘what is my future job quiz’ could be your best friend. It will help you if you feel trapped in any of these ways.

Stuck in the door?

When we first enter the workforce, we look for entry-level jobs that seem to have promise for advancement. Over the years, this job may take us down a different career path away from our original intentions. We take a job to “get a foot in the door” and years later we have advanced in pay, benefits, and responsibilities, but we aren’t where we would truly love to be. Does your current job resemble your childhood dreams in any way, or did your foot get stuck in the door? ‘My future job quiz’ can help get you unstuck.

“The devil you know”

Sometimes we feel somewhat comfortable in our misery. You may not love your job, but at least you know what to expect. Are you staying in your current job because you are afraid that another job may be worse? The risk of starting over somewhere else may feel overwhelming, and the “devil” you know may be preferable to the “devil” you don’t. This is defeatist. Take a future career quiz and take charge of your destiny.

A ‘Future Job Quiz’ will help you get rid of excuses

Do you feel like you have too many responsibilities in your life they make you hesitant to make a change? We tell ourselves many things to justify our unhappiness in our current job. Do you feel responsible for your family? “I should keep working so my family can be comfortable.” Is the thought of losing any security you currently have overwhelming? “I should just try to be happy with what I’ve got.” Do you worry about experiencing a period of unemployment? “I should be thankful I have a job at all.” If you find yourself often thinking these or similar thoughts, you are talking yourself out of your true destiny. You could be far happier working someplace else.

Your future job quiz will open your eyes to see the glass ceiling

Do you feel like you have gone as far as you can in your current job? Are you afraid to stretch yourself a little and take a risk to try something different? With a little creativity and persistence, you might find yourself in another position you never thought you could reach. Don’t let your own “glass ceiling” trap you in your current office. Set your mind free by taking a quiz.

Reach for Forbidden Fruit

Do you yearn to do something that you may think is forbidden, such as writing, acting, or fine arts? Many creative people don’t pursue their dreams professionally because they believe the career they desire is “not practical.” Many of us have been told from a young age, “You can’t make a living doing that. You should have something to fall back on.” As a result of the good intentions from family and friends, it is not uncommon to be discouraged from pursuing a career path of your choice.

Money Isn’t Everything

Many of us feel trapped in a job or career we don’t love because we feel we have to make a certain amount of money to be happy. But if we think about it, that salary isn’t making us happy. In a speech quoted by genius.com, Philosopher Alan Watts poses the question, “If money were no object, what would you like to do?” Once you have answered this question, Watts advises, “You do that and forget the money, because, if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time.”

What Do You Love?

Once you have identified why you are still in a job you aren’t happy with, how do you figure out what you would love to do instead? Ask yourself, “What do I find fulfilling? What is meaningful for me?” In her article ‘4 Ways to Find Your Life’s Passion and a Career You Love’ Deena Varshavskaya describes how she personally built her dream career. Her journey involved risk, failure, and sacrifice before achieving her goals. Today she enjoys her dream career working within the successful company she built. A future job quiz uses what you love to predict a job that you would enjoy.

Get Out of the Box

Finding a career we love doesn’t have to involve trial and error. Taking a risks can pay off more than you bargained for, or teach you valuable lessons to carry over to your future jobs choices. Sometimes we have to dream big and “think outside the box” of traditional business models. If all of this feels overwhelming, a ‘what is my future job quiz’ is a great place to start.

Personality Type and Work Style

A future job quiz can help you identify your personality type and apply it to your personal work style. Perhaps you have spent much time in your career trying to get into a management position for better pay or benefits, never realizing that you function best as part of a team instead of leading one. Perhaps you truly prefer to work on your own instead of within a team.
Understanding different personality types and work styles cannot only help you work better with other people but can also guide you to a future career better suited to your needs.

Talents and Aptitudes

A future job quiz can help you identify your talents and aptitudes. The results may surprise you. While you might be aware of your talents, you may not realize that you have an aptitude for something you have never tried. If you have an aptitude for creativity, problem-solving or teaching, do you have the opportunity to use those talents in your current job? Do you spend your workday concerned with numbers and calculations when you have more of an aptitude for writing or public speaking? If you have aptitudes but not the opportunities to use them in your current job, you may enjoy exploring those skills.
A good future job quiz cannot only help you determine your aptitude but also point you toward a future career where you can enjoy developing and using those aptitudes and talents.

Communication Style

Another important thing you can learn from a ‘what is my future job quiz’ is your communication style. Some people are good listeners while others jump to conclusions. Some people are very talkative and open and would thrive in customer service. Others are reserved prefer quieter and less social environments. Understanding your own approach to communication cannot only help you to understand yourself and work better with others but can also help guide you to a future career where you feel more effective and appreciated.

Motivation

A good career quiz can help you identify your motivations for choosing your career. Do you enjoy helping people? Do you want to invent new technologies to make life easier for all? Do you want to make a lot of money? Whatever your motivations are, do you feel that you are accomplishing something important in your current job? Many businesses were started by a person with an idea and a passion. You might enjoy working for a non-profit company or even starting your own.

A career you can truly love

A future job quiz helps you analyze and interpret your responses to understand yourself and your dreams for the future. Learning about your personality, aptitudes, communication style and motivations can be a powerful step to point you toward a career that is truly suited to your personality. Take some time to invest in a future job quiz that can help you understand yourself and how to choose a future career you can truly love.
